Christian Living

The Discipline of Grace, by Jerry Bridges

We know we need grace. Without it we'd never come to Christ in the first place. But being a Christian is more that just coming to Christ. It's about growing and becoming like Jesus--its about pursuing holiness. The pursuit of holiness is hard work, and that's where we turn from grace to discipline--and often make a big mistake. In The discipline of Grace, Jerry Bridges offers a clear and thorough explanation of the gospel and what it means to believers. Explore how the same grace that brings us to faith in Christ also disciplines us in Christ. (From the back cover)

The Enemy Within: Straight Talk About the Power and Defeat of Sin, by Kris Lundgaard

The one area of Biblical teaching that we all tend to minimize is the doctrine of indwelling sin. This book will cure you of that problem, but not in a way that will leave you hopeless and discouraged. The Enemy Within is as honest as anything you will ever read about the power of sin, yet it is infused with the hope of the Gospel." - Paul David Tripp, Lecturer in Practical Theology at Westminster Theological Seminary.

Over the past 30 years, J. I. Packer's classic has revealed to over one million Christians around the world the wonder, the glory and the joy of knowing God. The Rest of God: Restoring Your Soul by Restoring Sabbath, by Mark Buchanan

In The Rest of God, author Mark Buchanan says that the Sabbath is essential to our full humanity and faith. God set forth a rhythm of work and rest that if restored to our lives will bring prolonged life, enriched relationships, increased fruitfulness, and abundant joy. For the majority of us who have endless demands and stifling daily routines, discovering the "rest of God" is the solution to "not enough time". (From www.christianbook.com)

Doctrine

The Christ of the Covenants, by O. Palmer Robertson

"Although other books present the concept of the covenants, these do not present the successive scriptural covenants in a way that uncovers their role in deveoloping the central thrust of the biblical message. In The Christ of the Covenants the various covenant themes of teh Bible are tied together with the supreme focus on Jesus Christ. The author fulfills his assertion that covenant theology has much to contribute to the solidarity and maturity of faith among evangelicals." (From the back cover)

Exploring Christianity

The Reason for God, by Tim Keller

Why is there suffering in the world? How could a loving God send people to Hell? Why isn't Christianity more inclusive? Shouldn't the Christian God be a god of love? How can one religion be "right" and the rest "wrong"? Why have so many wars been fought in the name of God? These are just a few of the questions even ardent believers wrestle with today. In this book, Tim Keller uses literature, philosophy, real-life conversations and reasoning, and even pop culture to explain how faith in a Christian God is a soundly rational belief, held by thoughtful people of intellectual integrity with a deep compassion for those who truly want to know the truth. Mere Christianity, by C.S. Lewis

Many are familiar with the author and apologist C.S. Lewis. Mere Christianity is one of Lewis' most popular books. In this book, the reader is introduced to Christianity through a winsome and easy to understand discussion of the common ground up which all Christians stand together. The Jesus Storybook Bible: Every Story Whispers His Name, by Sally Lloyd-Jones

It’s like an adventure story about a young Hero who came from a far country to win back his lost treasure. It’s a love story about a brave Prince who leaves his palace, his throne, everything to rescue the one he loves. It’s like the most wonderful of fairy tales that have come true in real life. You see, the best thing about this story is—it’s true. It takes the whole Bible to tell this story. And at the center of the Story there is a baby. Every story in the Bible whispers his name. He is like the missing piece in a  puzzle—the piece that makes all the other pieces fit together and suddenly you can see a beautiful picture. (excerpt from the book)

Heirs of the Covenant, by Susan Hunt

True Christian education offers far more than secular education methods sprinkled with Bible stories. It teaches people of every age to think and live Christianly. And it makes teachers of us all. Whether you're a parent or grandparent, a Sunday school or Christian school teacher, or a youth leader or pastor, you are responsible to help develop the community of believers into a unified, vibrant fellowship; to draw families together in committed relationships that extend beyond generational lines; and to live out God's covenant with His people in a way that makes authentic Christianity come alive. Shepherding a Child's Heart, by Tedd Tripp

Shepherding a Child's Heartsatisfies the hunger for fresh, biblical approaches to child rearing. It is about how to speak to the heart of your child. The things your child does and says flow from the heart. Luke 6:45 puts it this way, ". . . out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks." (NIV) Written for parents with children of any age, this insightful book provides perspectives and procedures for shepherding your child's heart into the paths of life. The person and work of Jesus Christ

The Cross of Christ, by John R.W. Stott

Now from one of the foremost preachers and Christian leaders of our day comes theology at its readable best, a contemporary restatement of the meaning of the cross. At the cross Stott finds the majesty and love of God disclosed, the sin and bondage of the world exposed.
More than a study of the atonement, this book brings Scripture into living dialogue with Christian theology and the twentieth century. What emerges is a pattern for Christian life and worship, hope and mission. (From the back cover)
