St. Andrews History
Before the first meeting was ever held to organize St. Andrews PCA, God had been directing the circumstance to bring this church into
being. He placed the church in Cordova, Tennessee, lead by a pastor who had been planning to move to South Carolina. He located it in a beautiful new building, despite the congregation's plan to build elsewhere. He paid for it through an unexpected, profitable land deal and the love of his people. Indeed, the story of God's miracles and blessings of St. Andrews are too lengthy to detail here, but can be found by clicking here for a full history of St. Andrews. In brief, however, here is a basic summary of some significant dates in the church's history:- Oct. 1, 1996 Wayne Herring called by the Covenant Presbytery of the Presbyterian Church in America to plant a new church in eastern Shelby County.
- Sept. 14, 1997 St. Andrews "particularized" as a church.
- Oct. 26, 1997 Wayne Herring called by congregation as first pastor.
- Apr. 18, 1999 First Women in the Church officers installed.
- Nov. 12, 2000 Doug Barcroft installed as assistant pastor and in 2003 Doug Barcroft was installed as the associate pastor.
- May 24, 2001 St. Andrews closed on the purchase of church building, furnishings, and six acres of land at 455 Houston Levee Road.
- Mar. 30, 2008 Congregation voted to dissolve the senior pastor call to Wayne Herring at his request so that he could accept a position with the denomination, the Presbyterian Church in America. In September of the same year, the congregation voted to dissolve the associate pastor position at St. Andrews.
- Oct. 19, 2008 Congregation voted to call Nathan Tircuit as the new senior pastor, effective January 2, 2009.
Although dates pinpoint significant events in the history of St. Andrews, they can in no way begin to describe the service to God and His people and the spiritual growth of His people that have gone on within the congregation. Church services, Sunday school, vacation Bible school, youth programs, Bible studies, prayer breakfasts, men's and women's retreats, mercy ministries, and many others too numerous to name are a part of daily life at St. Andrews.
